July 7, 2016 - Thursday in Nauvoo

Take a look at this creek at the Handcart Station this morning:  We got here at 7:20am and the rain began about 7:45am.  Thunder and lightening and a downpour for over an hour....

This was dry a few minutes before this picture was taken today

Over one inch of rain in about an hour!
We had 11 treks scheduled for this morning.  Our first group came at 7:30am, and before we could get them started, the clouds gave way!  They are a young family from Palmyra.  Their schedule calls for a morning departure tomorrow, so we are going to meet them at 6:00am tomorrow morning so they can have a handcart experience before they leave.  All the other scheduled trekkers did not show up or call us.  I wonder what the Saints would have done in this situation back in the 1850's???  Tomorrow's schedule has over 300 trekkers coming between 7:30am and 11:00am.  Should be a fun day!

Mom and I caught the 1:00pm temple session after our shift.  There were only 4 brethren and around 8 or 9 sisters in our session.  We were asked to be the witness couple.  We sure enjoy our time in the temple.  Being out here in Nauvoo has given us more opportunity to attend the temple on P-days, early days and around our site schedules.  What a blessing the temple is!  Mom and I both agree that the temple provides the "oil" for our lamps that are so important to be kept trimmed.  Every session gives us one more drop of this precious oil!

Now here are a few shots of an active little Macie girl.  We are so looking forward to meeting her!  I can't wait to rough her up!  It looks like she has had it pretty easy so far.... washy washy anyone?

There is something about this other room...

A few munchies left behind by siblings and cousins!

Yes...go ahead and snap the photo while I pose...
Mom and I have the night off and we are home for the evening.  I am even finishing my blog before 6:00pm.  I might even get to bed before 10:00pm tonight.  I usually get to bed between 10:00pm and 11:00pm depending on the internet connection and the plays we participate in, and then getting up at 5:00am.  I am not sure how all the other missionaries keep going to restaurants, and shows and historical sites until late at night on their off nights.  I prefer getting to bed earlier than later and getting at least 6 hours of sleep!  It seems that the healthy missionaries are called upon to cover the sick missionaries.  The sick missionaries take a lot of time to recover but they still want to burn the late night candles...  Crazy!
