Today started off with a downpour and a thunder shower. We tried to take a walk but got about three blocks away and the lightening started flashing in the morning sky. That turned us around fairly quickly! We did some exercising at home and then got ready for the day. We thoroughly enjoy our morning devotionals and prayers. It sets such a nice tone for the balance of the day. The rain stopped about 8:30am as we were arriving at our assignments.
Mom was assigned to the John Taylor Home on the early shift. I had the split shift at the Family Living Center. It is always interesting for me to work there. I got there a few minutes early and got the fire started for the bread making demonstration. We had five sisters and two of us brethren there for the morning shift. They mission has also changed the start of the wagon rides to the Family Living Center so the traffic is a little busier now. The final count was over 700 visitors coming in to the Family Living Center.
I had some wonderful families come in for tours that I got to share. I sure enjoy giving the rope making demonstration with families. Getting everyone in the family involved makes for a great object lesson. Of course the ropes we make for each family, and by each family, are some of the best ropes ever made in Nauvoo! I really emphasize that and then tell them that working together as a family, you are not only able to make great ropes, but your whole family is blessed when they work together.
Sometimes I even tie it into their drive in the car on the way home. I tell them that when they see their family rope as the days and weeks go by, they can remember how good it felt to work together. I haven't seen any parents that have objected to that little message!
Then tonight we performed on the Sunset Stage in front of about 377 guests. Mom and I do the counting and we were within 5 guests in our separate counts. They gave us this responsibility about a month ago and we have had fun trying to be as close in the counts as we could be. Being within 5 was our best one ever! Do you think it might be possible that we both come up with the same exact number over the last 9 performances?? That's right, we are over half way through the summer shows and there are only 9 left for our Emma Hale Cast.
