August 2, 2016 - Tuesday in Nauvoo

Today was like having a third day off.  Our assignment was to cover the Visitor's Center tonight from 6:00pm until 9:pm.  No other assignments were needed for us to cover, the balance of the day, as the summer crowds are gone.  Every year, after the pageant is over, the visitors become fewer, and we heard tonight that many of the businesses in town were hit hard by the low visitor counts this year.  I want to feel bad for the businesses, but I keep remembering how the mayor told us how much the town does not like all the "Mormon traffic".  Customers are hard enough to come by in any town for any business, and I know how important they are to our survival!

The morning walk was cut short today as we experienced some lightening shows.  The clouds descended on Nauvoo about 6:00am and the rain began falling just after 7:30am.  By then we were safely back home in our cozy little house.  We had our usual morning devotional and prayers this morning, before our walk, and enjoyed a quiet morning after we got home.  The schedulers would have called us if we were needed any where in Nauvoo, but the call never came.

So we made the most of our morning, today.  We started packing up our extra clothing items and other items that we will not be needing until we get back to Rigby.  We filled up two suitcases and took a nice chunk out of our load headed for Idaho!  Thanks to Jackie making room in her car, we were able to gather what I think we can get into the space allotted in her car.  We will pack up her car on Friday evening.  We are grateful she was able to make some space for us!  And Mary, those sandals will be on their way home by Friday!

Mom and I got back into the swing of things at the Visitor's Center, after and absence of five months.  We are scheduled every Tuesday night now through August 25th.  It was so much fun to talk to families and help them get a little better organized for their visit here in Nauvoo.  We probably worked with five or six different families tonight.  I even set up a family trek for tomorrow after their temple visit!

Knowing what we have learned about the Saints who lived here during the Nauvoo years, it is wonderful to share and suggest various plans for them to see the most pertinent things here in Nauvoo and Carthage based on the time they have available.  It would probably take the better part of seven days to see everything, but some people just can't spend that much time here.  We just help them make the most of the time allotted!
