August 10, 2016 - Wednesday in Nauvoo

I missed another training meeting, today, with 2 family groups scheduled for a 7:30am trek.  Interestingly, while working last night in the Visitor's Center, I met these two families who wanted the trek experience after I made the invitation for them to come.  Both had appointments in the later morning hours so we settled on the earlier 7:30am time slot, and they were both there on time!

One family, the McCracken's, took the one mile trek, and the other family, the Farnsworth's, took the three mile trek. It was fun to recruit these families last night and to have them come and experience the trek's with us today.  They both worked hard and seem to have enjoyed the experience together.

The Farnsworth Family

Peoria Primary activity!
One previously scheduled group was the Primary from Peoria.  They had twenty children under ten years old and four mothers as their chaperones.  Needless to say, I was a little worried about this group!  However, they all made it with, one handcart, and one baby stroller, and one baby backpack!  Talk about a brave group of mothers!!!

Mom had the split shift at the Tin Shop and enjoyed working with her sister companions.  She picked me up at the Handcart Station at 12 noon, and we had lunch together.  I then took her back to finish her shift at 2:45pm.  Then we met again at 5:30pm and went to our Sunset play.  It was warm and very humid tonight on stage tonight, but we finally got some relief, a few minutes into the performance, with a cloud cover, and a cooler summer breeze.  We now have just one more Sunset play, the finale of the season, scheduled Saturday!  We opened the season with the first show and now we get to close it down with the last show!

The YPM's performing Orange Blossom Special

Tremendous energy from these YPM's!  And the Nauvoo Brass Band!
The mission changed out one of the counselors in the mission presidency, today, at the training meeting I had to miss.  The time has come for nearly 60 missionaries to head for home by the end of September.  The first of those couples left yesterday and the next one leaves tomorrow.  Six couples will leave by September 2nd including mom and me...

You really get to know people when you live in a very tight community like Nauvoo.  We are so grateful for the opportunity that we were given to serve this mission together.  It was really just for us, and what we had the potential of learning about ourselves, our values, and our heritage as members of the Restored Church!
