November 4, 2015 - Wednesday in Nauvoo

We have been here in the mission field nearly nine full months and this is the first P-day we have had completely free from meetings or commitments.  Imagine that!  We had our training meeting yesterday with Elder Hamula, and mom was coughing and sneezing enough to prevent us from attending the temple this morning.  Hopefully she will up for a temple visit on Friday!  It will close for two weeks after Saturday of this week.

Since we were pretty open on our schedule today, mom set up an appointment to cut her hair this morning at 7:00am.  She likes the way Robert cuts her hair and he is a wealth of knowledge concerning the events going on in Nauvoo.  We enjoy hearing his stories every eight weeks or so!

After the hair cut and after getting ready for the day, back at home, we left for a shopping trip to Quincy.  We got started on the shopping effort for the missionary Thanksgiving dinner that we are hosting for the Nauvoo Stake missionary effort.  I'm not sure how effective this effort will be for the members of the Nauvoo Stake to help share the Gospel with friends and neighbors, but I am confident that we will have a great soup kitchen for those less active, and other interested members of the community, who might want to come and have a great meal!

I am completely guessing that we will have about 200 people for dinner.  We won't have exact numbers probably until the day of the event!  I am padding that number by another 40 or so, so we are shooting for 250 attendees.

The afternoon was spent in complete relaxation, and now it is time to call it a day.  We got to talk to some of the grandchildren today when Mary made sure the kids got to call us.  We sure miss talking to these precious grandchildren.  Every time I hear their voices, they seem to have matured even more from the last time we got to talk.  Time marches on for two senior missionaries, eight parents and nineteen grandchildren!  All in the timely efforts of sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ!  What a privilege that is for us.
