It was a brisk 50 degree morning here in Nauvoo! Mom and I were up for our morning prayers and devotional and we were anxious to take our morning walk. Today was our first day to join the Nauvoo on the Road activity so we wanted to make sure we got our morning routine in early! The temperature required two sweatshirts and some lengthened strides as we took our 3 mile trail! But it was a great start to our day.
As we walked in front of the temple this morning, the lights suddenly went out on the temple. As we continued our walk, we noticed all the lights were out in the flats of Nauvoo. Our fears were realized as we came home and discovered the electricity was indeed out. That meant we showered in the dark and could not start the laundry we normally do each Saturday. However, when we got home tonight, the power was back on and the laundry did get done by 8:30pm.
We walked over to the Visitor's Center to join the 4 other couples going today. We left Nauvoo for Quincy at 8:45am so that we could be at the activity in Quincy by 10:00am. The Nauvoo on the Road is a traveling show dedicated to taking the best of Nauvoo to the outlying cities and towns. We demonstrate rope making, brick making, cookie baking, and pioneer games. The Nauvoo on the Road leaders scout out the different community activities and determine which ones they feel could best benefit from the show and then we teach about the additional activities that they can see if they come to Nauvoo. It is an opportunity to invite more folks to come and see what Nauvoo is all about! Here are some pictures;

All in all, the Nauvoo on the Road is a great missionary tool that is used to invite folks to come to neighboring Nauvoo. People around here still have very bad feelings about Nauvoo and the Prophet Joseph Smith. One lady at this event was very adamant about NOT coming to Nauvoo because of "Joe Smith". The feelings from over 170 years ago have been passed down from generation to generation in spite of all the good the Church has done in this area. It just shows us how much more work is needed in order to see the 2nd coming of Jesus Christ...
It was a good day and we were happy to have experienced it. However, the long day and the long drive took its toll on mom and me. We have traveled so much in the last six months that we would just like to stay close to Nauvoo and off the well traveled roads...
Sounds like a busy day! Glad you were still able to shower even with the power out! ☺ We sure love you guys!
