September 11, 2015 - Friday in Nauvoo

I think that Fall has officially arrived!  This morning we saw the lower 60 degree temperatures, on our walk.  And the forecast going forward will see temperatures dip into the lower 50's in the next few days.  The air is brisk and wonderful after the hot spells we have had this summer.  So, you can only guess that we had a great start to our day!

Mom and I got the same shift today.  She worked early at the Lyon Drug Store site and I was over at the Stoddard Tim Smith shop.  It is always so much more fun to work the same shift and get off at the same time.  As for today, we worked 9:45am to 3:00pm and got to have dinner together.

Then mom and I went in at 5:00pm tonight to the Cultural Hall, for the last rehearsal of the Editor, before my debut next Friday.  Crazy!

The Pharmacy Clerk is here to serve!
Here she is in front of the Lyon Drug and variety store.  This place looks like a fun place to work in the 1840's!  It does remind me of the small Pharmacy Stores I remodeled with Longs back when I did their new store openings and remodels.  The small Pharmacy Stores always had this kind of atmosphere...
And here is a glimpse of the apothecary items that the early drug stores carried.  That is a scale on the counter for the clerk to weigh the bulk candy sold here back in the early days.

Well, that is what mom did today and I got to give close to a dozen tours at the Tin Shop.  We had a senior tour bus come from Utah and we got to tell them about the early Saints here in Nauvoo and their life experiences here.

It always impresses me that the pioneers had to use and develop so much of their creative potential in the 1840's.  Folks bartered with each other and they were all extremely talented in their various professions.  That is what set the Saints apart from all the other communities in the United States in the early years of the Church.  They had a tremendous faith in Heavenly Father and a strong willingness to all work together for the benefit of the community.  They were united by their belief that was not just a faith, but a way of life.  They were an amazing group of people that we have come to honor, respect and love.
