12 May 2018 - Saturday

Mom and I were awakened to a dark room and no electricity late last night.  We threw on an extra blanket and tried to stay warm until we got up at 4:30am this morning and discovered all the folks in missionary village had no power.  The temperature in our trailer was 56 degrees.  Somehow a power pole, a few miles away, caught fire, and, in this area of Wyoming covering hundreds of square miles, left 56 customers without power, including 14 senior missionary couples, until 10:00am or so...

We decided to get dressed for our preparation day and head into the mission offices early.  Our individual mission radios were buzzing with the news, and we found out that the offices had power.  We got down there at about 7:15am and waited to see how many would be coming in from the village to get ready for the day.  What was so interesting was that the senior missionaries in the office Homestead there at Martin's Cove got on the radio to let us at missionary village, 10 miles away, know that we could come in and use their showers, curling irons and anything else that was needed.  How is that for ministering?

We had our correlation meeting at the usual time of 8:30am and then we went into Casper for our weekly supplies.  We picked up some banana bread for our neighbors out here.  We had 14 plates we put together and shared with our neighbors for Mother's Day.  That was fun to do!  Then, as we were waiting for the final senior missionaries to come in from their assignments or P-days, we saw the Roberts come in with a squeaky front tire on their truck.  They were just coming back from Casper where they went for their P-day.

As they drove up, we handed them their plate of banana bread and checked out the front tire noise.  We discovered he was missing three of the five lug nuts on that front tire.  The other two nuts were just about to fall off.  He had driven from here to Casper today, a distance of over 130 miles.  The speed limit along that highway to Casper is 70-mph.  That tire was literally wobbling as he drove by.  Several of us gathered to re-secure that tire with some lug nuts from his other tires.

So the question is, does Heavenly Father watch over His missionaries?  And even further, does He watch over each one of us?  I know that He does, and that He loves each one of us more than we know at this point in our lives!  And sometimes He lets us know He is there and sometimes we just have to feel His presence in the details.  What a great blessing this tender mercy has been for me to be reminded of His love for me and for all of His children.

We love you!  Happy Mother's Day to all of our precious daughter's, Josie, Mary, Amy and Ali and to all of our friends who follow us on this mission blog!
