7 September 2018 - Friday
Mom and I wore three hats today. We helped out at the Outfitting Center for the Trek Leader Training going on here today. And mom was the school leader for a private school that came this morning for a history tour, and we both helped prepare the evening meal for over 250 this evening during our four hours of down time. I was amazed that we were able to do all this and still generate uncontrolled excitement for our visit from Ali and Jared and those precious grandchildren! They should be here in less than one hour!!
Our day began early when we left our trailer for the Outfitting Center at 6:30am at the Homestead. Out shift began at 7:00am, and I helped park cars, and mom helped organize the handcart groups at the registration area. Then we sang for these trek leaders at the Trek Center. After our opening song, the missionaries were excused, and my next assignment was at 5:00pm. However, mom's next assignment with the school group was at 11:00am, so I tagged along with her.

With all the extra time we had on our hands, we went to the Barn to see if we could help with the dinner. There was still a lot to do, and they welcomed our help. We left to finish our assignment at the Outfitting Center at around 5:00pm, and then joined the trek leaders for dinner.
As we were walking over to the Barn for dinner, one of the trek leaders, from Kansas, was walking with us. We answered a few of his questions, and then he asked us where he knew us from. He said that we looked so familiar to him! We came to find out he knew us in Nauvoo, in 2016, when he brought his family on a history tour! Small world!

Mom had a sweet school group today. They were in a private school, grades kindergarten through eight grade. They children had some great questions, and we invited them all to come back with their families. One of the adults walked with our group, where his 6 year old daughter was assigned, and I got to talk to him most of the time. He committed to coming back with his family to see more of what Martin's Cove is all about! He also works for a company owned by Church members so this contact was a nice bonus! I think he will come back and we will be able to teach him so much more!

As you can tell, we had a long day. It began after our morning prayers, and Scripture reading, and ended with the anticipation of a precious family visit! We kept busy all day and got to help some of the trek leaders gain more insights, and ideas, and the potential for their scheduled treks this coming summer. Just another day in two senior missionary's lives!
We are so excited we are here!!!!
