It was our turn to work at the Visitors' Center this morning. Our shift began at 9:30am and ended at 1:00pm. Our Sunday meetings, on the other-hand, began at 10:00am and ended at 1:00pm. So we missed the normal Sunday meetings, and went by the Trek Center at 9:00am to receive the Sacrament. There is something extra special about having the Priesthood prepare, bless and pass the sacrament just to mom and me!
We then had visitor's trickle in all morning long. Most of the families were members of the Church on their way somewhere. For mom and me, Sunday is definitely not an ideal day for us to be traveling! But it was fun to meet so many different families that came by. I had two families traveling together that were from Belgium. They flew into Denver three days ago and were coming through Wyoming to visit Jackson and Yellowstone Park, and then they were heading to Washington state. They were not members of the Church, but were very curious about what happened here.
They knew nothing about the Devil's Gate area and the events that took place here in the 1850's. I got to share with them some of the events that led these pioneers to emigrate to Salt Lake City and the differences between those following the California Trail and the Oregon Trail. They were a very kind and inquisitive group! They ended up taking the one mile hike out to Devil's Gate and back to the Visitors' Center. Our shift assignment ended at about the time I had them off on their excursion.
Mom and I had lunch with the missionaries after our shift ended at 1:00pm. We missed hearing the talk by Bishop Gerald Causse', the Presiding Bishop of the Church, who came to visit here this weekend, and spoke in the Sacrament Meeting. Since we were assigned to the Visitors' Center, we were isolated from getting to meet him in person. He and his family had joined the missionaries in the Barn for lunch, but they were sitting with the mission president and we did not have a chance or an invitation to come over and meet them. However, we are grateful to have such great leadership in the Church and that we are led by a Prophet of God!
Our day ended as we returned to our trailer and got to speak with Ali as she and Jared were driving home from the airport in Salt Lake City. We are so grateful that Heavenly Father has been so good to each of us in our daily lives. What a blessing it is, for these two senior missionaries, that you are each kept safe, every day, and that you are each well grounded in the Gospel of Jesus Christ! We love each one of you!! And we want to be together, forever!
We love you!!!❤️❤️❤️
