8 July 2018 - Sunday

8 July 2018 - Sunday

It was such a warm Sabbath Day here in Wyoming!  Mom and I were up this morning and had our preparations for the day completed by 8:30am.  And to go along with tradition, we left for our meetings at 8:45am.  We are usually one of the first to be at the meetings, so today was no exception.  I was able to assist in passing the Sacrament to our visitors and fellow missionaries.  We had about 200 in attendance today.  When mom and I were driving down to the Homestead, the temperatures were already in the mid 80's.

There is more talk each week about who will be staying here for the winter.  Another senior couple, having dinner with us at the pot luck, were invited to meet with the mission president after the meal.  They are currently serving at Sixth Crossing, and they seem willing to stay here.  And there have been several couples who have openly discussed their desire to come back next summer.  We are all invited to return for a second season next year, and that came with the initial mission call.  But for mom and me, we are still very anxious to fulfill an honorable six months here, this year, and return home to our precious family!

After the pot luck we had a district meeting with our district leaders.  Our district comprises of four senior couples.  The district leaders are Elder and Sister Taylor, and they have been so fun to work with.  We are joined in our district with Elder and Sister Reese and Elder and Sister Gilliland.  This has been a real treat to be joined with these missionaries and serving in the best district!  It appears that we are all doing well in the eyes of the mission president.

As we left the air conditioned Chapel from our district meeting, we were hit with very hot  air temperatures!  The car thermometer registered 102!  However that reading probably came from sitting in the sun all morning, and part of the afternoon.  By the time we got rolling, it had dropped to 92 degrees.... still hot!

Mom turned on the swamp cooler just as we got home.  The trailer temperature was 84 degrees and the cooler brought that down in about an hour to where it was very comfortable.  We are so blessed to have this trailer, and to live in such comfortable and safe conditions.  It has been our privilege to have excellent accommodations in each of our missions!

Both mom and I were thinking about home today.  Our newest grandson, Adam Lasher, whom we have not yet met, had his baby blessing given by Bob Jr.  We would have loved to have been there to participate in this sacred event.  Our prayers have been sent heavenward, this entire week, for our son, Bob Jr., to have the Spirit be with him as he gave Adam his name and blessing.  I kept thinking about President Nelson's concern about Priesthood Blessings being given with power and authority, and we had complete confidence that Bob had prepared well to give this blessing.  We offered our additional prayers on his behalf right at the 4:00pm scheduled time for the blessing to be given.

I think Heavenly Father was very mindful of our longing to be back home, for this blessing, when a baby was blessed today in our Sacrament Meeting.  The ranch cowboy running the cattle operation here at Martin's Cove, and a member of the Martin's Cove Branch with his family, gave his new daughter a name and a blessing.  In my mind's eye, I could picture Bob blessing his son and I knew, distinctly, that the blessing he gave to Adam was in accordance with Heavenly Father's will.
