December 7, 2015 - Monday in Nauvoo

Mom and I just got back home after having a wonderful visit with mom's brother, Steve, and her sister, Julie, and her daughter, Jenni. We are grateful we made the effort to drive down to Blue Springs, Missouri, and see them this weekend.  I think that we may see them come up here to Nauvoo before we leave for a visit here with us!

We were up early this morning.  Julie had to leave for work by 5:30am, or so, and we got up to have breakfast with her.  After she left we got ready for the day and we were ready to leave at 7:30am.  It was foggy from Blue Springs to Columbia, (about 100 miles), but we had very light traffic and made good time.  We made it to Quincy, Illinois, by 11:00am and did our grocery shopping.  We then drove to Keokuk for a few other items and we were back in Nauvoo by 2:00pm.

The time we left Nauvoo on Saturday was just 2:00pm and we arrived  back here just 48 hours later.  It was a very quick trip with about 9 hours of driving, but it was well worth the time and effort.  We got to spend time with Julie and Steve and Jenni and we even were able to go by Steve and then Jenni's homes to see where they lived.  It was the first opportunity we had to visit in their homes!  And at least Jenni seemed quite interested in coming to Idaho for a family vacation!

Of course, it was a long drive and I was able to stay awake for the entire drive.... fortunately, because I was the driver!  However, it was so good to get home and change into my lounging clothes and stretch out on the couch!  Ah, the rewards of a long drive are the naps that await you when you get home!

We had a fun experience this afternoon.  We had a knock at the door and guess who was there?  A wonderful sister from the Jehovah's Witnesses!  Mom welcomed her in and let her read a Scripture to us.  As mom was doing that, I fired up the christmas.mormon.org website and had this sister come in to see it in our living-room.   I showed her both clips from "A Savior Is Born".

That was so much fun because I got to give her a pass-a-long card and offered some more to share with her fellow missionaries who were waiting for her.  She turned down the extra cards but she did take the one we offered as a trade, I suppose, for us taking a copy of her paper.  Missionary meeting missionary!

Usually we have opportunities to share the Gospel at the various sites we work in.   But...this was the first time the opportunity came to our front door in the mission field!  I'm not sure which way they decided to continue their "tracking", but I am pretty sure that if they kept hitting missionary housing here in Nauvoo, they may have gotten a few more opportunities to see this great Christmas Video!

Another milestone in the life of two senior missionaries!  Kind of makes you want to go out and serve a full time senior mission, doesn't it?  Thank you for checking in with us tonight!
