October 11, 2015 - Sunday in Nauvoo

Today we were back to our Sunday meetings at the Nauvoo Stake center.  Last week was a wonderful weekend of General Conference and next week will be our Nauvoo Stake Conference.  But today was another marvelous Fall day and a great Sabbath day.  We walked to the Stake center for the 8:00am Sacrament Meeting, and enjoyed the coolness of the morning air.  Since we had our Fast Sunday before General Conference,  today we had our regular Sacrament speakers.

After the Sacrament meeting we were walking down to the Visitors Center for the Sunday School, and Priesthood and Relief Society Meetings, when we met a visiting member who asked us about the next meetings.  He was walking, so we invited him walk down there with us.  He stayed for the Sunday School and the Priesthood meetings and then we had him over for lunch with us.

His name is Talli (835i), Halayeua (2356u3), and he is a long haul driver who lives in the Heber area in Utah.  He is taking a load to Pennsylvania and parked his truck along the road to Keokuk, about a mile away.  It was fun to get to know him and in our conversations he told us that one of his children is married to one of John Pontius' children.... Do you think that got mom excited??   His information was fascinating, in that his family has a regular conference call with Terri Pontius.  We enjoyed the company of our new friend!

Mom and I had a sweet shift at the Visitors center from 2:00pm to 5:00pm today.  We then went over to the Hansen's home and had a Canadian Thanksgiving dinner with them, and their two daughters, and the Walton's, and the Halls.  The tradition of the Canadian Thanksgiving is to go around the table and share one thing you are thankful for.   That was a pretty special time to share these "thankful" feelings!

After the delicious dinner and the wonderful company, we all went to the Stake Center for a monthly slide show, and a Fireside with Susan Easton Black and her husband George Durrant.  He gave a touching rendition of what a Priesthood man should be like, and she gave a presentation on famous Mormon women.

Then we heard from our oldest granddaughter who had born her testimony for the first time.  We were so proud of her!  When I asked her if she had made her dad cry, she could only say that she cried.  And then her mom shared her testimony and she cried again!  It was a very special day for mother and daughter for sure!

It capped off a wonderful Sabbath Day.  There is no place like being with family!  Oh, how we miss them, and how we are so grateful for those who share these tender experiences with us!!  Thank you!
