It was definitely a busy day of work and travel. It is about 50 mile round trip to Nauvoo from Carthage and we did that twice today. And, since we have the 7 passenger van and 3 couples now living here in Carthage that need to make the same trips, we have been designated the transportation couple.
Our first meeting this morning was our 8:00am Sacrament Meeting. Of course we need to be there a few minutes early and we got there at around 7:45am. We only carried Elder Shepherd with us to the meeting, but added Sister Skidmore on the way back since her husband had to stay and work the Nauvoo sites today. Not sure why Carthage couples living in Carthage and assigned to Carthage are scheduled in Nauvoo, but this was the case today.
Then this evening there was a fireside, also called a "sociable" at the Nauvoo Visitor's center. Elder Shepherd and Sister Skidmore rode back with us and Sister Skidmore rode back with her husband. Sister Shepherd was sick today and did not leave her home...
The fireside started at 6:30PM AND was begun with a slide show of the events of March in the mission field here in Nauvoo. We all have the opportunity to purchase the DVD so that wasn't worth driving in for, since we were so tired. But they also introduced the sister missionaries that had been assigned various mission assignments called "outbound" assignments.
Two went to Billings, Montana, two went to Richmond, Virginia, and two went to Fresno, California. They were all asked to share their experiences of the last 6 months in their outbound assignments and were asked to spend 5 to 7 minutes. They each took an average of 15 minutes and after the 30 minute slide show, mom and I were so tired. We left Nauvoo at 8:40pm and got back to Carthage at 9:20pm. Here are some of the new young sister missionaries;
Our day at the Visitors Center was steady but a lot slower with Spring Break ending. Actually, we were supposed to be off today but Sister Shepherd was sick so we volunteered to work for them an additional day. We had some great visitors and it was a good day, but very long hours. Time for bed!
Thanks for checking in with us tonight!
